Bitcoin’s Window to Transform the Global Financial System Is Closing
Bitcoin was launched by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009 with a maximum supply of 21 million coins. Its decentralized network was designed to bypass banks and clearing institutions, reducing friction in cross-border payments. Its significance lay in offering a global monetary experiment that did not depend on central banks or traditional financial intermediaries.
The turning point came on January 10, 2024, when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs from institutions including BlackRock and Fidelity. Bitcoin completed its fourth halving on April 20 that year, cutting the block reward to 3.125 BTC. With Wall Street controlling the main gateway for investors, Bitcoin increasingly resembles a regulated asset rather than a payment instrument capable of replacing the financial system.
