MoonPay Opens PayBox for AI Agent Payments
MoonPay has been building payment rails for autonomous software as AI agents move beyond answering questions to executing purchases and trades. It launched MoonPay Agents on Feb. 24, 2026, offering 54 crypto tools across 17 skills and 10 blockchains through non-custodial infrastructure. PayBox extends that strategy to open-internet commerce, addressing the challenge of letting agents pay without exposing users’ raw credentials or taking custody of their funds.
MoonPay unveiled PayBox on July 23, with the service going live on July 28 and access promoted to Claude and ChatGPT users on July 29. Users can prompt, approve and complete transactions inside a conversation while granting narrowly scoped permissions. Agents receive derived credentials such as payment tokens, virtual cards or transaction signatures, while funds move directly between the funding source and recipient. MoonPay did not disclose pricing, transaction limits or launch-volume figures.
