AI-Generated Female Profiles Target XRP Las Vegas Attendees in ‘Pig-Butchering’ Scam

1 reports · First detected 2026-05-03 · Last active 2026-05-03

“Pig-butchering” scams typically build trust through romantic or investment conversations before steering victims to fraudulent platforms. XRP Las Vegas was held at Paris Las Vegas from April 30 to May 1, 2026, with general admission packages priced at $839 and VIP packages at $1,739. That made crypto investors with substantial spending power prime targets for highly focused scams.

On May 1, 2026, an XRP Ledger validator discovered a surge of AI-generated female profiles on X and Instagram. The accounts used images deliberately composited with the conference backdrop and booths, then sent direct messages to attendees to lay the groundwork for scams. Reports exposed the activity on May 3. Ripple warned users to verify identities by video or in person. The number of victims and total losses have not been disclosed.
