Taiwan’s Three Major Telecoms Launch MID Plus Anti-Fraud Upgrade Aligned With Global Standards

Mobile identity verification (MID) uses mobile numbers and verified subscriber data to establish trusted identities and has become an important tool for financial institutions conducting identity checks and managing transaction risk. To counter fraud involving SIM swaps and account takeovers, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone Telecommunications are working with Taiwan-CA Inc. (TWCA) to upgrade the service and align its anti-fraud protections with international telecom standards.

The four companies plan to advance the next-generation MID Plus service in 2026 by introducing standardized GSMA Open Gateway APIs, including a SIM Swap feature that can detect whether a number’s SIM card was recently replaced. Financial institutions will be able to obtain dynamic risk signals during logins, account openings or transactions, helping them intercept suspected impersonation earlier. Reports have not disclosed the investment amount or the formal launch date.
