Crypto Bank Anchorage Launches Agentic Banking, Targets Trillion-Dollar Opportunity
Anchorage Digital Bank, a unit of Anchorage Digital, is the first federally chartered digital asset bank in the United States. As companies deploy AI agents to handle payments, procurement and treasury management, the ability to subject nonhuman agents to identity, authorization and compliance controls has become critical to putting agentic commerce into practice.
Anchorage Digital launched Agentic Banking on May 5, 2026, in partnership with Google Cloud, combining AI intelligence with regulated financial rails. The system allows users to define agent identities, spending limits, permissions and audit trails, with settlement in stablecoins and fiat currencies. CEO Nathan McCauley expects the sector to grow into a $1 trillion industry.

The history behind this eventAnchorage Digital CEO Calls for Broader Crypto Banking Market and Offers Core Technology
Anchorage Digital is a digital asset platform connecting crypto assets with the traditional financial system. CEO Nathan McCauley says crypto banking should not be dominated by a small number of providers. Widespread adoption of custody, settlement and other services by commercial banks would broaden institutional access to the crypto market and expand its scale.
McCauley recently said he wants all roughly 4,000 U.S. commercial banks to become crypto banks, which would leave Anchorage Digital with 3,999 peers. The company plans to provide the backend infrastructure, but reports did not disclose a specific launch date, participating banks, investment amount or implementation timetable.
