Alphabet Q2 Revenue Jumps 24% as Gemini App Hits 950 Million Users
Alphabet has committed heavily to AI chips, data centers and Gemini models, using Google Cloud to sell computing capacity and enterprise tools while weaving generative AI into Search and Android. Adoption of the Gemini app is a key test of whether Google can convert its distribution advantage and infrastructure spending into durable growth, as it competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT for consumers and with Microsoft and Amazon in the cloud market.
Alphabet said on July 22 that second-quarter 2026 revenue rose 24% from a year earlier to $119.8 billion. Google Cloud revenue surged 82% to $24.8 billion, driven by demand for AI infrastructure and solutions, while its backlog reached $514 billion. The Gemini app expanded to 950 million monthly active users, nearing the one-billion threshold, and daily active users tripled over the past year. Gemini model APIs now process about 22 billion tokens a minute, up from 16 billion one quarter earlier.

The history behind this eventAlphabet Cloud Revenue Jumps 82% as AI Demand, Investment Gains Lift Profit
Alphabet has sought to turn its heavy spending on generative AI into durable revenue, with Google Cloud serving as a key test of that strategy. Demand for AI infrastructure and its Gemini systems has strengthened the cloud unit’s role in funding continued investment in data centers and computing capacity, while giving investors a clearer measure of whether the company’s expanding AI outlays can produce commercial returns.
In the second quarter of 2026, Alphabet reported record revenue and net income as Google Cloud revenue surged 82% from a year earlier. The company also booked $99 billion in securities gains, including returns tied to its holdings in Anthropic and SpaceX. Those gains were the biggest driver of the quarterly profit increase, amplifying the contribution from rapid cloud growth and emerging AI monetization.
