U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren Calls for Anti-Corruption Provisions in Crypto Bills

1 reports · First detected 2026-03-06 · Last active 2026-03-06

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission sued Tron founder Justin Sun and his companies in March 2023, alleging unregistered sales of TRX and BTT and manipulation of trading volume. Sun later invested $90 million in the Trump family’s crypto venture, making the enforcement outcome a test case for regulatory independence and conflicts of interest between business and politics.

On March 5, 2026, the SEC proposed a settlement under which Rainberry would pay a $10 million civil penalty over allegations of wash trading in TRX. The remaining claims against Sun, the Tron Foundation and the BitTorrent Foundation would be dismissed, subject to court approval. That same day, Elizabeth Warren called on Congress to include anti-corruption provisions in all crypto legislation to prevent a president from profiting through industry policy.
