Taiwan Waives Interbank Fees for Kumamoto Earthquake Donations

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a relief donation program following the Kumamoto earthquake in Japan. Financial Information Service Co. and all participating financial institutions are supporting the initiative by removing interbank transaction costs for transfers into the designated disaster-relief account, broadening access for donors and helping funds reach the program through commonly used banking channels.

Interbank service fees will be reduced to NT$0 for donations made in August through online banking, mobile banking, ATMs or over-the-counter remittances, Financial Information Service said. Customers whose fees are initially deducted will receive refunds in the following month, or September. The waiver applies to eligible transfers into the ministry’s designated Kumamoto earthquake relief account.
