Former TikTok Employees Launch AI Photo Coach Superpose

Generative AI is moving from post-production editing into real-time photography assistance as developers seek practical consumer uses for image models. Former TikTok employees Melody Chu and Jing Liu founded Superpose to address a familiar portrait problem: subjects often do not know how to pose, while photographers struggle with framing. The iOS camera app focuses on improving photos of real moments rather than placing users in synthetic backgrounds, positioning AI as an on-set coach instead of a replacement for the original scene.

Superpose launched on iOS in July 2026 and said on Sept. 15 that it had surpassed 22,000 downloads, with users generating more than 190,000 poses. From one selfie or portrait, the app creates four pose options and lets users align themselves through its Match Pose feature. Users receive five free generations daily; five more cost $2.99 and 20 cost $9.99. The company has raised $2.2 million from Khosla Ventures, Chinese photo-app maker Meitu and OVTR VC.
