NatWest and Sainsbury’s Expand Partnership With Embedded Finance Products
Embedded finance integrates deposit, lending and payment services directly into retail platforms, allowing consumers to access them without visiting a separate bank channel. NatWest completed its acquisition of Sainsbury’s Bank’s core banking business on May 1, 2025, adding about £2.5 billion in customer assets, £2.7 billion in deposits and roughly 1 million accounts. The deal established a customer base for the companies’ expanded partnership.
NatWest and Sainsbury’s announced a new agreement on April 1, 2026, with products expected to roll out from the second half of 2026. They will include a NatWest Nectar credit card, an instant-access savings account and unsecured personal loans. The latter two will be powered by NatWest Boxed and distributed through Sainsbury’s digital channels. Nectar members will receive exclusive savings and lending rates as well as bonus points on purchases.
