Yageo’s Pierre Chen Overtakes Terry Gou as Taiwan’s Richest Person on AI Demand
Yageo has spent decades building its business in passive components such as resistors and capacitors. In recent years, acquisitions and product upgrades have helped it expand into AI servers, automotive electronics and high-performance computing. Chairman Pierre Chen’s fortune has surpassed that of Hon Hai founder Terry Gou, signaling that wealth creation among Taiwan’s richest people is shifting from traditional electronics manufacturing toward the AI supply chain, where technological barriers and added value are higher.
As of July 2026, Chen’s net worth had risen to $16.7 billion, or about NT$490 billion, making him Taiwan’s richest person for the first time. Driven by AI-related demand and stronger market conditions for passive components, Yageo shares gained about 125% over the preceding year. The revaluation lifted Chen past Gou and underscored investor optimism about growth prospects for high-end electronic components.
