AI Could Cut Payment Hub Builds to One Week, Otoma CEO Says

Payment hubs sit at the center of banks’ transaction routing, clearing connectivity and operational workflows, making them critical to payment modernization. As real-time services expand and infrastructure becomes more complex, AI could improve forecasting and technical support. The shift also raises a strategic question for banks: how to use specialized vendors without surrendering control over their technology roadmaps and operating models.

Otoma Chief Executive Peter Reynolds told EBADay 2026 that AI could sharply accelerate the deployment of payment infrastructure, potentially allowing a new payment hub to be built within a single week. He also said banks working with a diverse group of suppliers should preserve their strategic independence, ensuring that external technology supports — rather than dictates — their technical and operational priorities.
