Grinex Crypto Exchange Loses $14 Million in Hack, Suspends Trading
Grinex is a Russia-linked cryptocurrency exchange registered in Kyrgyzstan and regarded as the successor to sanctioned exchange Garantex. The United States, Britain and the European Union placed Grinex under sanctions in 2025, alleging that it helped Russia evade financial restrictions through the ruble-backed stablecoin A7A5.
Grinex said its platform suffered a cyberattack on April 15, 2026, causing Russian users' wallets to lose more than 1 billion rubles, or about $13.7 million. It suspended all trading on April 16. The company claimed that foreign intelligence agencies were suspected of involvement, though that assertion has not been independently verified. Grinex said it had reported the incident to law enforcement and filed a criminal complaint.
