Beijing Dumpling Restaurant Owner Builds and Open-Sources MCP-Based AI Skill

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-16 · Last active 2026-04-16

The owner of Beijing’s Jinguyuan Dumpling Restaurant independently developed the “Jinguyuan Dumpling Restaurant AI Skill” using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), connecting the restaurant’s notices, menu and external platform services to an AI assistant. The project shows that generative AI is no longer solely a tool for large technology companies: small traditional restaurants can also use it to improve information access, ordering and waitlist management.

The Skill was recently open-sourced on GitHub. Customers can use an AI assistant to find the restaurant’s Wi-Fi details, learn how to cook dumplings and join an online queue through Meituan. The owner’s decision to develop it himself has sparked discussion online. Existing reports did not disclose an exact launch date, development costs or user numbers, and the restaurant has yet to publish data on its operational impact.
