Thailand’s Fintech Market Shifts to Embedded Finance

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-13 · Last active 2026-08-13

Thailand’s fintech sector is moving beyond the familiar model of startups building standalone financial apps. PromptPay, mobile banking and QR payments have become part of everyday commerce, pushing competition toward embedded services spanning payments, lending and data. Banks, telecommunications groups, retailers and technology platforms increasingly operate in the same financial ecosystem, making the shift important for both financial inclusion and the competitive position of incumbent lenders.

Bank of Thailand data showed PromptPay processed 2.35 billion transactions worth 4.46 trillion baht in April 2026. The Finance Ministry had also approved three virtual-bank applicants on June 19, 2025: ACM Holding; a consortium led by Krung Thai Bank, Advanced Info Service and PTT Oil and Retail Business; and an alliance involving SCB X, WeTechnology and KakaoBank. The groups were given one year from approval to begin operations, advancing Thailand from digital payments toward fully digital banking competition.
