Unitree Robotics Launches GD01, Touted as World’s First Mass-Produced Rideable Transforming Mech

Unitree Robotics has long developed quadruped and humanoid robots. The GD01 is designed to carry a person and switch between bipedal and quadrupedal modes, integrating balance control, joint actuation and a reconfigurable mechanism. Successful mass production and delivery would demonstrate the Chinese robotics supply chain’s ability to move beyond demonstration prototypes into advanced commercial vehicles.

As of July 20, 2026, reports said Unitree Robotics had launched the GD01 and described it as the world’s first mass-produced rideable transforming mech, priced at $574,000. The vehicle can switch between an upright bipedal stance and quadrupedal movement depending on the terrain, but the company has not disclosed an initial delivery date, production target or confirmed order count.
