Anthropic Access Curbs Expose OKX’s $8 Million Monthly AI Spend

Anthropic’s geographic access rules for Claude have created a compliance challenge for OKX, prompting the cryptocurrency exchange to restrict use of the service by employees in Hong Kong. The episode underscores a growing operational risk for global financial-technology companies: regional policies imposed by leading AI providers can affect software development, data governance and access to tools already embedded in daily workflows.

OKX founder Star Xu said the company was working actively with Anthropic to resolve the issue while tightening its internal access controls. He also disclosed that OKX spends between $6 million and $8 million a month on frontier foundation models and has deeply integrated AI into its internal development platform. The access dispute has therefore offered an unusual look at the scale and recurring cost of AI adoption inside a major crypto exchange.
