Banco Sabadell Puts AI at Heart of Business Overhaul

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-06 · Last active 2026-08-06

Banco Sabadell is entering a Spain-focused phase after the sale of its British unit TSB, with CEO Marc Armengol seeking to deepen its relationship-banking model while modernising retail services. Its 2025-2027 plan targets a 16% return on tangible equity in 2027 and a further €2.5 billion of shareholder distributions from 2026 and 2027 earnings. Embedding artificial intelligence across the bank is intended to improve customer service, streamline processes and support growth without diluting the lender’s high-touch approach.

On July 27, 2026, Banco Sabadell unveiled a simplified organisation that will take effect on September 1, while leaving its management committee unchanged. A new Corporate Transformation and Artificial Intelligence unit, led by Robert Duran within Marc Prat’s Strategy division, will drive AI deployment across the group. A separate Business Transformation unit under Jorge Rodríguez Maroto will accelerate product innovation and digitisation in Spain. The domestic business will be organised into five areas, with selected support functions centralised to speed decisions and project delivery.
