Google Launches Offline AI Dictation App Google AI Edge Eloquent for iOS

2 reports · First detected 2026-04-07 · Last active 2026-04-08

Using its open-weight Gemma models, Google has brought speech recognition and text refinement directly to iPhones and iPads, enabling offline use without uploading recordings to a server. The on-device approach makes AI dictation more practical for privacy, lower latency and situations without internet access, while taking Google into a mobile dictation market that includes providers such as Wispr Flow.

Google released the free, subscription-free Google AI Edge Eloquent on Apple's App Store on April 6, 2026. The app can transcribe speech in real time, remove filler words, organize key points and switch among styles including formal, concise and expanded. An April 22 update to version 1.3.0 added audio and video imports and removed limits on file size and recording length. The app supports only English, and Google has not announced a release date for Android.
