Robinhood L2 Launch Boosts Ether Optimism and Trading Volume

4 reports · First detected 2026-07-13 · Last active 2026-07-15

Online brokerage Robinhood has launched a layer-2 network called Robinhood Chain, creating an important bridge between mainstream internet users and the decentralized finance ecosystem. The move prompted markets to reassess the benefits that layer-2 networks could bring to Ethereum. It also fueled debate over whether the chain’s success would be bullish or bearish for ether’s long-term value, significantly boosting confidence in the asset.

Data from July 5–12, 2026, showed that Robinhood Chain generated nearly $4 billion in trading volume within two weeks of its launch and attracted the creation of more than 500,000 wallets. The chain also recorded nearly $878 million in decentralized-exchange trading volume. The rapid growth spurred major DeFi protocols to compete for a share of the ecosystem’s gains and prompted widespread discussion within the Ethereum community about ether’s outlook.

The Backstory

The history behind this event
Robinhood Chain Revenue Tops Ethereum as Memecoin Trading Surges2026-09-02 · 2 reports · similarity 0.80

Robinhood Chain is emerging as a major venue for launching and trading memecoins, whose activity is often driven by social-media momentum and short-term speculation. The network’s ability to generate more daily revenue than Ethereum underscores how low-cost token-creation and trading tools can rapidly redirect onchain activity, intensifying competition among blockchain platforms for users, liquidity and fee income.

On Aug. 30, Robinhood Chain processed a record 5.52 million transactions as users launched about 22,600 tokens in a single day. Strong demand for memecoin trading tools lifted the network’s daily revenue to $2.66 million, surpassing Ethereum. A related report said decentralized-exchange volume on Robinhood Chain had jumped to $1.6 billion, highlighting the scale of the surge.

Robinhood Chain DEX Volume Hits Record $989 Million2026-09-01 · 1 reports · similarity 0.81

Robinhood Chain is part of Robinhood’s push into onchain financial infrastructure, where decentralized exchange activity offers a gauge of user demand and available liquidity. Rising total value locked, or TVL, can help attract traders, applications and capital, making the network’s trading volumes an important measure of whether its ecosystem is gaining meaningful traction beyond Robinhood’s core brokerage business.

Daily DEX volume on Robinhood Chain recently reached a record $989 million as the network’s TVL continued to expand. Trading patterns also shifted during August, with utility tokens gradually drawing more activity than meme coins. The change suggests market interest may be rotating from largely speculative assets toward tokens tied to practical functions, even as the new volume high underscores a broader increase in onchain participation.

Robinhood Chain Nears $800 Million in TVL as Crypto Chief Maps Strategy2026-08-08 · 1 reports · similarity 0.86

Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum Layer-2 network designed to extend the brokerage’s reach beyond crypto-native users. The architecture allows Robinhood to inherit Ethereum’s security while directing more resources toward product development. Crypto chief Johann Kerbrat said the platform must balance tokenized assets and other regulated financial products with the meme-driven culture that helps sustain participation in on-chain markets.

As of Aug. 9, 2026, Robinhood Chain had been live for just over a month, yet total value locked was approaching $800 million and transaction volume had exceeded 200 million. Kerbrat described the competing priorities as “two wolves” inside the network: one focused on serious financial infrastructure and the other on community-led speculation and memes. Robinhood plans to develop both sides as it seeks broader retail adoption.
