Polish Parliament Again Fails to Override President’s Veto of Crypto Bill
The European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA, has applied in full since December 30, 2024, requiring crypto-asset service providers to obtain authorization. Poland had planned to put the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, or KNF, in charge of licensing and enforcement, but the necessary domestic legislation has yet to take effect. It is now the only EU member state unable to issue MiCA licenses, potentially forcing companies to apply in other countries.
After Polish President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the bill for a second time in February 2026, the lower house voted on April 17 to override the veto, with 243 votes in favor, 191 against and 3 abstentions. The measure fell short of both the required 263 votes and the three-fifths threshold. With the previous regime’s transition period ending on July 1, Polish firms can no longer obtain MiCA authorization domestically.
