Cboe Seeks SEC Approval for First US 3x Bitcoin, Ether ETFs
Leveraged cryptocurrency ETFs listed in the US have generally offered up to twice the daily performance of their benchmarks. Cboe’s proposal would raise that exposure to three times for bitcoin and ether, opening a more aggressive vehicle for short-term traders. The funds would be structured as commodity pools and invest mainly in CME futures rather than holding the tokens directly, magnifying both daily gains and losses while increasing volatility and compounding risk.
Cboe has filed a proposed rule change with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to list a suite of leveraged commodity ETFs, including funds targeting 300% of the daily performance of bitcoin and ether. The products remain subject to SEC review. A 2x leveraged offering from the same issuer has fallen 56% this year, underscoring how daily resets can erode returns when markets move against investors or fluctuate sharply over multiple sessions.
