Tesla Formally Begins Cybercab Mass Production as Musk Targets 5 Million Robotaxis a Year

Tesla unveiled the two-seat Cybercab on October 10, 2024, positioning it as a purpose-built Robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals and entirely reliant on FSD. Its prospects for large-scale deployment are central to Tesla’s strategy of evolving from an electric-vehicle manufacturer into an autonomous transportation platform. Deployment will also depend on driverless-safety validation and regulatory approval.

The first production Cybercab rolled off the line at Gigafactory Texas on February 17, 2026. On April 24, Musk posted a 38-second production-line video on X and announced that production had begun. The company said output would initially be slower before ramping up toward year-end. Its long-term target is a cycle time of less than 10 seconds per vehicle; if that falls to 5 seconds, a single line could theoretically produce 5 million vehicles annually.
