Yahoo Bets on Scout to Win Gen Z in AI Search

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-27 · Last active 2026-08-27

Yahoo, an internet pioneer now owned by Apollo Global Management, is trying to re-enter the search race as users shift from lists of links to conversational answers. Scout uses Anthropic’s Claude as its primary foundation model and Microsoft Bing’s grounding API, while drawing on more than 30 years of Yahoo search history, first-party data and content. The strategy is meant to differentiate Yahoo from ChatGPT, Google and Perplexity while making the brand relevant to younger users.

Yahoo debuted Scout in beta on Jan. 27, 2026, making it available on desktop and mobile to nearly 250 million users in the United States. It also introduced the Scout Intelligence Platform across Mail, News, Finance and Sports. A report published Aug. 23 said Yahoo plans a fuller rollout later in 2026 and intends to fund AI-generated answers through advertising, although the company has not disclosed an investment figure. The push extends Scout beyond standalone search into Yahoo’s broader consumer portfolio.
