Cross-bank transactions include withdrawals and transfers between different banks and are an important gauge of consumers’ cash management and financial-system stability. Ahead of Lunar New Year, Taiwan’s central bank required financial institutions to prepare sufficient settlement funds for concentrated withdrawal and transfer demand during the holiday. Mobile banking’s growing share also shows that consumers are increasingly shifting everyday transfers to digital channels.

The central bank said domestic cross-bank transactions totaled NT$260.4 billion during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday from February 14 to 22, 2026. Mobile banking accounted for more than 70% of transfers across all channels, making it the primary method. Financial institutions held NT$543.4 billion in cross-bank settlement funds, another record high, indicating that the banking system maintained ample liquidity to meet holiday demand.
