Cathay Financial February Survey Shows Stock Optimism Cooling Despite Confidence in AI and TSMC

1 reports · First detected 2026-02-24 · Last active 2026-02-24

Cathay Financial Holdings' monthly Economic Sentiment Survey tracks public expectations for the economy, employment and investment markets. Taiwan stocks rose in early 2026 as the outlook for the AI industry improved and TSMC reported better-than-expected results, but volatility at elevated levels also made investors more cautious. The economic benefits of the Taiwan-U.S. tariff agreement have meanwhile become an important gauge of Taiwan's export outlook and semiconductor competitiveness.

Cathay Financial's February 2026 survey showed that despite Taiwan stocks strengthening in January, increased volatility pushed the public's stock-market optimism index down to 31.5. About 48% of respondents said the Taiwan-U.S. tariff agreement would benefit Taiwan's GDP and stock market, while 41% expected it to enhance the global competitiveness of Taiwan's semiconductor industry. The findings indicate that the market remains confident in the momentum provided by AI and TSMC.

Cathay Financial May Survey Shows AI Lifts Taiwan Earnings Forecasts as Stock Optimism, Risk Appetite Hit Record Highs2026-05-20 · 2 reports · similarity 0.85

Cathay Financial Holding’s monthly economic confidence survey tracks public views on the economy, inflation and investment markets. As advances in AI lift corporate earnings forecasts and global equities rise, stronger fundamentals and capital momentum in Taiwan’s stock market have made investor confidence an important gauge of domestic demand and market risk tolerance.

Cathay Financial’s May survey showed that stock-market optimism and the risk-appetite index both reached their highest levels since the survey began. Despite tax season, more than 60% of respondents said they did not plan to sell shares to pay their taxes. However, respondents’ expectations for economic growth in 2026 were more conservative than the official estimate, while their inflation expectations remained relatively high.
