Taiwan Pay Tightens Fraud Controls, Cuts Payment Code Validity to One Minute

2 reports · First detected 2026-04-09 · Last active 2026-04-19

Taiwan Pay is operated by Taiwan Mobile Payment Co., Ltd. Consumers can display a payment code in the Taiwan Mobile Payment App for participating merchants to scan and complete a transaction. If a code is captured in a screenshot, photographed or forwarded, it could be misused and lead to losses from the user’s account. Shortening its validity and strengthening on-screen warnings are therefore important safeguards against payment fraud.

The latest measures took effect on the 10th, reducing the validity of payment QR codes generated by the app to one minute and adding dynamic on-screen warnings. The changes reduce the risk that static screenshots will be shared or used after being photographed. Taiwan Mobile Payment Co., Ltd. also urged merchants to check the status of payment codes and consumers not to send screenshots. The announcement did not include any changes to transaction amounts or fees.
