Bitcoin Depot is a cryptocurrency ATM operator that allows users to buy and sell Bitcoin with cash and settles digital assets through company-controlled wallets. The breach directly affected assets held in corporate custody, underscoring the importance of internal credential security and wallet access controls.
Bitcoin Depot discovered unauthorized access to its internal systems on March 23, 2026. The hackers obtained credentials for a settlement account and transferred 50.903 Bitcoin. In an April 8 filing with the U.S. SEC, the company estimated the loss at $3.665 million based on Bitcoin's value at the time of the incident.
