AI Threats Break Into CSA’s 2026 Cloud Risk Ranking

The Cloud Security Alliance’s major-threats survey is widely used by companies to assess cloud risk and prioritize cybersecurity spending. As generative AI becomes embedded in cloud services, attackers can use the technology to automate phishing campaigns, identify vulnerabilities and scale intrusions. AI is consequently emerging both as a force multiplier for cyberattacks and as a new class of infrastructure requiring dedicated protection.

CSA’s 2026 survey ranked AI-enhanced attacks No. 2 among 11 major cloud threats, while the compromise of AI systems entered at No. 6. Both categories appeared on the list for the first time. The report highlighted prompt injection and model theft as serious risks alongside AI-assisted phishing and vulnerability discovery, and urged organizations to deploy AI-specific safeguards while strengthening identity governance and access controls.
