Spotify Launches Conversational AI Music Assistant
Swedish streaming giant Spotify, which has 600 million active users, faces growing competition from rivals including Apple Music. To strengthen user engagement, Spotify is bringing generative AI into its core service. The move represents a major upgrade to personalized recommendations and signals that the streaming battle is formally shifting from click-based search to conversational AI assistants centered on chat interfaces.
Spotify announced in July 2026 that it was launching a conversational AI music assistant called “Talk to Spotify” for Premium users paying $11.99 a month. The feature is currently available in beta in three countries: the United States, Ireland and Sweden. Users can request playlists directly through the app’s chat interface using text or voice, marking the formal start of testing for voice-based music requests.
