Hana Financial, Dunamu Launch Blockchain Remittance System
Traditional cross-border remittances use SWIFT to transmit payment instructions, while the actual transfer of funds is completed separately, often extending settlement times and increasing costs. Earlier this year, Hana Financial Group and Upbit operator Dunamu completed a proof of concept using their proprietary GIWA Chain, demonstrating that messaging and settlement could be integrated into a real-time process. The addition of POSCO International marks the technology's first move from testing to real-world trade.
The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding at Hana Financial's Seoul headquarters on April 28, 2026. The following day, they announced that POSCO International would conduct the first transaction using funds from an actual trade, with Hana handling remittance settlement and Dunamu providing GIWA Chain. The transaction amount was not disclosed, and the partners aim to complete the real-time remittance model by year-end. POSCO previously issued about 140 billion won ($95 million) in related digital bonds with HSBC.
