Google Unveils Gemini-Powered Googlebook as AI-First Laptop

Since its 2011 debut, Chromebook has targeted education and business customers with ChromeOS, cloud services and affordable devices. Google is now positioning Googlebook as its successor, embedding Gemini Intelligence at the system level. The shift moves AI from standalone applications to operating-system-level interaction and could reshape human-computer interfaces and ecosystem partnerships in personal computing.

Google’s newly unveiled Googlebook features the “Magic Pointer,” redesigned by Google DeepMind for the AI era. It can offer real-time suggestions based on on-screen content, generate effects and let users customize widgets through commands. The first models will come from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, using Intel, Qualcomm or MediaTek platforms, and are expected to launch this fall. Pricing and an exact release date have not been announced.
