American Express Partners With Bottomline to Streamline B2B Payments
American Express’ Buyer Initiated Payments, or BIP, lets corporate buyers send approved supplier payments electronically while using the card company’s billing cycle to extend payment terms. The Bottomline tie-up matters because connecting BIP to an established, verified supplier network can ease the onboarding burden that often slows B2B digitization, while giving buyers more control over payables and helping suppliers reconcile receipts and monitor cash flow.
American Express announced BIP Connect on July 21, 2026, giving eligible BIP customers access to Bottomline’s Paymode network of more than 600,000 verified businesses. Bottomline says Paymode processes over $500 billion in B2B payments annually. The companies said the service will speed supplier enrollment, improve payment efficiency and lower risk across sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, commercial real estate and higher education. Financial terms were not disclosed.
