AMD Unveils MI400 Accelerators to Target AI Factory Market

The artificial intelligence infrastructure race is expanding from training large models to running them at scale, prompting cloud providers and enterprises to build so-called AI factories. AMD is seeking a larger share of a market dominated by Nvidia by combining its Instinct accelerators, EPYC processors and rack-level systems into an integrated platform for data-center customers.

AMD unveiled its next-generation Instinct MI400 accelerator series and Helio rack system at an event in San Francisco. Built using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s 2-nanometer process, the products target both model training and large-scale inference. Chief Executive Lisa Su said the rapid rise of Agentic AI is driving inference demand and projected the data-center AI accelerator market will reach $1.4 trillion by 2030.
