HYPE Slides as Funds Queue $150 Million in Token Withdrawals

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-23 · Last active 2026-07-23

HYPE underpins the Hyperliquid ecosystem and can be staked by investors, while builders launching perpetual markets under HIP-3 must post 500,000 HYPE as a slashable security bond. Unstaking does not necessarily signal an imminent sale, but it returns locked supply to circulation. That distinction matters in a thin spot market, where a large withdrawal queue can create an overhang and pressure prices before any tokens are sold.

On July 22, Multicoin Capital, Selini Capital and Galaxy Digital had about $116 million, $4.4 million and $29.4 million of HYPE, respectively, queued for withdrawal, taking the total close to $150 million. The tokens are due to unlock on July 28. HYPE fell as much as 8% to $57.39 before recovering to $59.19 at publication. Block Liquidity recorded $72.8 million in spot turnover over roughly 28 hours. Multicoin managing partner Tushar Jain said the firm did not intend to sell its unstaked tokens.

The Backstory

The history behind this event
Investors Exit Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, Pivot to HYPE and Other Tokens2026-07-01 · 6 reports · similarity 0.80

U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs had been the main gateway for institutional capital entering the crypto market, but major tokens have continued to lag despite a nine-week rally in U.S. stocks. Capital is shifting toward selected products tied to Hyperliquid's HYPE, XRP and SOL, signaling that investors are moving away from broad-market exposure in favor of individual themes.

In the week ended July 17, Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows of more than $1 billion, while Ether funds shed over $215 million. BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP ETFs lost a combined $4.4 billion across 13 trading sessions. HYPE funds attracted capital over the same period, bucking the trend, while Hyperliquid's HYPE token has gained 59% since the start of July.

Hyperliquid's HYPE Hits Record Above $60 as Institutional ETF Demand and Grayscale Buying Fuel Rally2026-06-01 · 5 reports · similarity 0.82

Hyperliquid is a platform centered on decentralized perpetual-contract trading, with HYPE serving both governance and ecosystem functions. Expectations for a U.S. spot ETF and institutional adoption have risen in 2026. Bitwise also plans to allocate 10% of its ETF product's management fees to purchases of HYPE, creating expectations of sustained demand. Grayscale-linked wallets have increased their holdings at the same time, making capital flows an important indicator to watch in the token's rally.

As of July 19, 2026, HYPE had broken above $60, $66 and $67 in succession, repeatedly setting record highs. It had gained more than 70% since the start of the year, while its market capitalization surpassed Dogecoin's. In addition to ETF inflows and Grayscale's accumulation, HypeStrat's HYPE position generated $1 billion in unrealized profit, placing it among the leading digital-asset treasury companies. By contrast, Bitmine had an unrealized loss of about $8 billion, highlighting the performance gap between different token allocations.

Hyperliquid's HYPE Token Defies Market Slump With 5% Gain on Higher Volume and Token Burns2026-05-21 · 4 reports · similarity 0.82

Hyperliquid is a decentralized trading platform focused on perpetual contracts. The protocol uses fee revenue to buy back and burn HYPE tokens. Fighting in the Middle East has driven demand for round-the-clock oil futures hedging, boosting trading volume, platform revenue and token demand and providing important support amid a weak crypto market.

As of July 19, 2026, HYPE had bucked the broader market with a 5% gain. Daily trading volume in Hyperliquid's oil contracts approached $250 million, increasing fee revenue and accelerating token burns. The market also took a positive view of upcoming token unlocks, while JUP, the token of Solana-based Jupiter, rose on expectations of a supply freeze.
