Pinterest Launches Ask Pinterest AI Shopping App
Pinterest has built its discovery business around visual searches, saved Pins and Boards, producing proprietary signals about users’ tastes and intentions. Its internal Taste Graph maps people to interests and aesthetics, giving the company a potential edge as Google, Meta and other technology groups compete to make AI assistants a gateway to shopping. Pinterest is betting that its own data and visual-discovery expertise can yield more relevant recommendations than general-purpose models, rather than licensing its recommendation layer to outside AI services.
Pinterest unveiled Ask Pinterest on June 17, 2026, as a standalone experimental web app available to a limited group of U.S. users on mobile and desktop. The service accepts natural-language requests, handles multi-step tasks such as furnishing a room or planning a dinner party on a budget, and can retain context across sessions. Signed-in users can also receive answers informed by saved Pins and Boards. Pinterest said lessons from the test could shape AI features in its flagship app, but disclosed neither an investment amount nor a timetable for a broad rollout.

The history behind this eventPinterest’s AI Shopping Push Drives Record Users and Revenue
Pinterest has been recasting its image-bookmarking service as a visual search and shopping destination, using artificial intelligence to interpret consumer intent and connect inspiration with products. Pinterest Assistant and upgraded recommendation models are central to that effort, helping users refine searches and discover relevant items while giving advertisers access to a large, commercially minded audience. The strategy is important as Pinterest seeks to convert stronger engagement into faster advertising growth.
Pinterest said on May 4, 2026 that first-quarter revenue reached $1.008 billion for the three months ended March 31, up 18% from a year earlier. Global monthly active users rose 11% to a record 631 million, while adjusted EBITDA totaled $207 million. The company credited AI-powered visual search, conversational assistance and improved recommendation systems with making discovery and shopping more personalized, supporting its tenth consecutive quarter of double-digit user growth.
