Crossmint Launches Visa Card Payments API for Autonomous AI Agent Commerce
Crossmint, a stablecoin and payments infrastructure provider, is extending Visa card-payment capabilities to AI agents. The technology allows agents not only to search for products or make recommendations but also to complete purchases. Tokenized card credentials and spending restrictions can help businesses reduce the risks of exposing card numbers directly and of unauthorized transactions, creating a controlled payments environment for autonomous commerce.
Crossmint has launched an API supporting Visa credit- and debit-card payments, allowing AI agents to execute purchases and transactions on platforms including Claude Code. Controls can be set by merchant, spending limit and purpose. Reports did not disclose the API’s exact launch date, transaction value, fees or number of partner customers. The announced focus is enabling agents to make autonomous payments with controlled card credentials.
