Square Launches Managerbot AI Assistant to Automate Merchants’ Daily Operations
Square, Block’s merchant services platform, began with a mobile card reader in 2009 and now integrates payments, point-of-sale, e-commerce, workforce and inventory management. Managerbot extends Square AI beyond answering questions, using operational data from merchants’ accounts to proactively identify risks and handle tasks. It is designed to give resource-constrained small and midsize businesses capabilities similar to those of a back-office team.
On April 28, 2026, Square expanded Managerbot in open beta to most non-franchised restaurant, retail, and health and beauty merchants in the United States at no additional charge. Several thousand merchants had already used the tool. It can monitor sales, labor ratios and inventory; draft staff schedules based on sales volume and employee availability; and prepare marketing campaigns, subject to merchant review before publication or execution.
