Cloudflare Launches Open-Source CMS EmDash With Sandboxed Architecture and AI Agent Support

Cloudflare’s EmDash is an open-source content management system built with TypeScript and Astro. It aims to address security risks arising from WordPress plugins sharing the same runtime environment as the core platform. EmDash runs plugins in isolated sandboxes and is designed to accommodate AI agent workflows, giving content management and automated access clearer permission boundaries.

As of July 20, 2026, Cloudflare has made the EmDash project public. It includes a built-in MCP server and the x402 protocol, allowing AI agents to programmatically create, edit and manage content while enabling fees to be charged to automated clients for content access. Cloudflare has not announced a formal commercial launch schedule, customer adoption figures, pricing or the amount invested in the project.
