Boeing Sells Wisk, Insitu and SkyGrid to Archer

Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft makers are racing to commercialize urban transport while securing regulatory approval for autonomous flight. Boeing invested $450 million in Wisk Aero in January 2022 and made the developer a wholly owned subsidiary in 2023. Wisk and Archer Aviation, once adversaries in a trade-secrets dispute, settled their litigation in August 2023 and agreed to collaborate on autonomy, laying the groundwork for a broader combination of aircraft, drone and airspace-management technologies.

Archer said on Aug. 10, 2026, it would acquire Boeing’s Wisk Aero, uncrewed-aircraft maker Insitu and airspace-management company SkyGrid. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Boeing will receive shares representing about 16.5% of Archer, while the companies will share technology resources. Boeing will retain rights to use Wisk’s autonomous-flight system in commercial and defense programs. The acquisition also brings Archer Insitu’s established defense business, which generates more than $200 million in annual revenue.
