Top 1% of US Companies Spend $7,400 Per Worker on AI

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-18 · Last active 2026-08-18

Corporate spending on generative AI is becoming increasingly concentrated among a small group of aggressive adopters. Ramp’s AI Index shows that leading US companies are treating the technology as core productivity infrastructure rather than another software subscription. The widening investment gap matters because companies with the capital and technical capacity to deploy advanced models at scale may gain an enduring advantage over less-resourced rivals.

The top 1% of US companies by AI spending now report median expenditure of $7,400 per employee, more than 600 times the level at a typical company, according to Ramp’s latest report. Anthropic leads vendors with a 43.5% enterprise adoption rate. But with prices for high-end models having doubled, corporate buyers are beginning to encounter limits on how much they can allocate to the most advanced AI systems.
