DOJ Charges AudiA6 Crypto Mixer in $389 Million Money-Laundering Case
AudiA6 had marketed cryptocurrency-mixing services on underground forums since 2021, using layered transactions to conceal the source of funds. It was also linked to the Dark2Web cybercrime forum. The case shows that U.S. authorities continue to prioritize infrastructure that facilitates money laundering for ransomware operations and darknet markets, following cases including Tornado Cash.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said on June 11 that Ukrainian national Ruslan Tkachuk and Russian national Alexander Ledenev had been arrested in the country of Georgia on June 10. Investigators said AudiA6 had received about 10,333 Bitcoin since 2021, worth $389,747,417 at the time of the transactions. U.S. authorities will seek their extradition, and each faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
