Coinbase CEO Says Crypto Is Expanding Global Financial Access

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-11 · Last active 2026-08-11

Crypto advocates have long argued that open blockchain networks can reach people excluded from bank accounts, affordable cross-border payments and inflation-resistant savings. Coinbase Chief Executive Brian Armstrong put the potential audience at about 4 billion people on July 24, 2026, saying they lack financial services many Americans take for granted. Stablecoins, decentralized finance and Bitcoin are central to that case, though access, consumer protection and regulatory oversight remain contested.

Armstrong said in an Aug. 10, 2026, social-media post that crypto deserved more recognition for widening global financial access. He cited stablecoins as a route to dollar exposure, DeFi as an open channel for borrowing and yield, and Bitcoin as an alternative to inflationary fiat currencies. Coinbase is also expanding payment infrastructure and blockchain rails for AI applications while lobbying the U.S. Congress to advance digital-asset market-structure legislation. The post disclosed no new spending amount or financial target.
