Deutsche Bank Mobilizes 4,000 Staff for Global AI Hackathon

Deutsche Bank is using its annual hackathon to turn artificial intelligence from a broad strategic priority into practical tools for everyday banking work. Now in its 10th year, the one-day event gives employees hands-on experience testing ideas, building prototypes and presenting solutions. Its focus on productivity, workflows and access to information shows how large lenders are looking beyond customer-facing AI toward internal operations, efficiency and workforce skills.

Finextra reported on July 23, 2026, that more than 4,000 Deutsche Bank employees across 21 locations were taking part in the global event. Multidisciplinary teams are using a range of AI tools to test ideas, create prototypes and pitch their work to judges, with technical experts available to guide participants. The challenges cover three areas: raising employee productivity, simplifying processes and workflows, and making information easier to find, understand and use. The bank disclosed no event budget or investment amount.
