Base44 Unveils Base 1 Model to Make AI Web Design Less Formulaic

Base44 is a vibe-coding startup that lets users quickly build apps and websites with natural-language prompts. General-purpose large language models, however, often produce interfaces with similar layouts, color schemes and component arrangements. The result has been described as an “algorithmic IKEA” aesthetic lacking a distinctive brand identity, making specialized design models crucial to differentiation.

Base44 recently unveiled Base 1, a self-trained large language model focused on generating apps and user interfaces. The model incorporates reinforcement learning and was trained using design data accumulated by Wix, with the aim of reducing the formulaic style produced by general-purpose models. Base44 has not yet disclosed an exact release date, training scale, investment amount or performance data.
