Anthropic Unveils AI Economic Policy Framework, Plans $350 Million to Address Jobless Risks

Anthropic, the developer of Claude, released the framework as generative AI accelerates the automation of knowledge work, fueling concerns about fewer jobs and the concentration of income among capital owners and highly profitable AI companies. Chief Executive Dario Amodei argues that if AI delivers rapid growth while driving up unemployment and inequality, governments should establish a tiered response system in advance. Companies and holders of capital income that benefit from AI should help bear the cost of the transition, he says.

Anthropic released its Economic Policy Framework on June 10, 2026, setting out responses for U.S. unemployment rates of about 5%, 10% and an “unprecedented” level, with the nearly 25% rate seen during the Great Depression often used as a reference for the last scenario. The measures progress from job training to wage and unemployment insurance, with basic income considered in the most severe case. The company also pledged $350 million, comprising a $200 million research fund and a $150 million nationwide grant program.
