Qualcomm Plans Double-Digit Chip Price Hikes From Sept. 1
Qualcomm is a leading supplier of processors for premium Android smartphones, with its next-generation Snapdragon platforms increasingly dependent on advanced manufacturing. Elevated prices for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s 2-nanometer wafers and a persistent shortage of DRAM are raising component costs across the supply chain. Higher chip prices could lift retail prices for flagship phones and other devices while squeezing manufacturers’ margins.
Qualcomm has signaled that it will raise prices across its product lineup from Sept. 1, with increases expected to reach double-digit percentages. The company cited mounting pressure from TSMC’s costly 2-nanometer process and constrained DRAM supplies. The move will directly affect the cost structure of next-generation Snapdragon flagship phones and connected devices, as Qualcomm shifts more resources toward higher-margin businesses including AI data-center computing.
