Central Bank Releases 2025 Cashless Payment Data; Small Transactions Top 80% of Volume
Cashless payments encompass large-value remittances, check clearing, card-based payments and electronic payments. Large-value systems handle substantial fund transfers, while card-based and electronic payments serve everyday small-value purchases. The central bank compiled data for all of 2025 to assess digital-payment adoption, the shift away from cash and financial-infrastructure needs.
The central bank's latest statistics show that card-based and electronic payments together accounted for 84.7% of cashless payment transactions in 2025, meaning more than 80% were concentrated in everyday small-value use cases. Although large-value remittances occurred less frequently, they still represented 75% of transaction value, underscoring the distinct roles of retail payments and large-value fund transfers.
