Canva Taps EBANX, Capitec for South Africa Subscription Payments

1 reports · First detected 2026-09-03 · Last active 2026-09-03

South Africa’s credit-card penetration stands at only about 8% to 10%, limiting access to global digital services that rely on cards for recurring billing. Canva is partnering with cross-border payments platform EBANX and South African bank Capitec to address that gap, extending subscription access to consumers who have bank accounts but do not hold credit cards.

Canva has now added Capitec Pay, enabling South African customers to authorize recurring subscription payments directly from their bank accounts. EBANX connects the global merchant to the local payment system, while Capitec supplies the account-based payment infrastructure. The rollout targets the large share of consumers excluded by card-only checkout and gives Canva a broader route to paid-user growth in the South African market.
