Singapore Launches ASPIRE 2B to Expand Sovereign AI Compute
Singapore has steadily expanded its national high-performance computing infrastructure since the ASPIRE 1 system came online in 2016. The push has gained urgency as training large AI models and running high-resolution scientific simulations demand increasingly scarce computing resources. Operated by the National Supercomputing Centre Singapore, or NSCC Singapore, ASPIRE 2B is intended to keep more sensitive and strategically important workloads onshore while supporting the city-state’s commitment of more than S$1 billion to public research in fundamental and applied AI.
Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo launched ASPIRE 2B at Nanyang Technological University’s Innovation Centre on June 8, 2026. The system combines 1,536 NVIDIA H200 GPUs with 184,320 AMD EPYC CPU cores, 1,072 terabytes of system memory and 63.5 petabytes of storage. Its peak capacity of 115 petaFLOPS is nearly four times that of ASPIRE 2A and ASPIRE 2A+ combined and about 100 times ASPIRE 1’s capacity, enabling larger AI training workloads, higher-resolution climate modelling and research spanning healthcare, materials and advanced manufacturing.
